You Know What Sucks: Smart TVs

In regards of technology these days, if you want to go one step forward, you have to take several steps back for whatever reason because people have gotten too comfortable with companies being anti-consumer. This even applies to televisions, the piece of tech needed to use game consoles, DVD players, streaming services, and so forth.

The biggest flaws with smart TVs have to be the intrusive ads, privacy concerns, and the abnormally small remotes that don’t have enough buttons. The very limited button scheme on the remote has enough room to have buttons for four different streaming platforms, but apparently not enough for a guide or input button? Back in my day we were complaining about remote controls having too many buttons, now there isn’t enough.

  1. It doesn’t help that Roku TVs come with pre-installed apps (some unremovable), which can contribute to slower performance over time, especially on entry-level models. Using an Android box or just hookup your computer to the TV via HDMI is a better option.

  2. I have a Vizio Smart TV, for like 5 years since 2020, what I hate about is it’s slow freaking ui, when turning it on, you have to wait for like minutes, nowadays I use my Amazon Firestick on the Vizio Smart TV and has an alright ui, better than the slow outdated ui I had.

  3. it is HARD to find a dumb TV these days… my current 1080p insginia TV gets some guide info, but mostly just stays plugged into a low profile windows 10 box to stream from Firefox with adblocks on!

  4. Roku TVs are the absolute worst, always spamming adverts. What's next, Roku subscriptions just to use the damn thing?
There are only 2 Smart TVs I would ever buy – LG and Samsung.
