  2. WD-40 is a petroleum-based product that is primarily a penetrating oil that has some lubrication properties. Accordingly, it can clean off various types of residues that are responsive to petroleum-based agents, such as oil, grease, grime, and burnt-on carbon. Of note, WD-40 can potentially damage rubber and plastic parts. Instead, WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner is designed for use on electrical equipment, most plastics, rubber, and metal, and is safe for cleaning electrical contacts..

  3. The Silicone based WD40 is prolly more compatible with the remote’s plastic construct. In fact, if you carefully nozzle spray the key buttons from the front of it, it can free up the contacts such as volume control, etc, without taking it apart ….. worth trying !
