4k SDR is best selection then if you have 4K content or dolby vision it will automatically switch to this setting, works great
Yeah I'm sorry but I disagree with these settings. By leaving it to 4K Dolby Vision and turning off the content matching you're essentially optimizing the Apple TV menu to look good but not the actual content. 👎🏽
Like other folks here. I found that setting the ATV to 4K SDR and turning ON content matching makes your shows and films look the best and more importantly, the most accurate. If your show or movie is in HDR/Dolby Vision then you will get that but just not the menu or non HDR content… As it should be. 👍🏽

I have a samsung 55 inch 4k tv and have apple tv on 1080p sdr…and netflix is so crisp and amazing , best pic ever , how is this happening , when 4k content isnt even switched on ??

This is bad advice, the format should be in SDR for the menu & match dynamic range and frame rate switch on so that all content is shown as the creator intended. It’s a feature not a bug. The HDMI handshake to black screen is a normal action not a bug.
The menu resolution should always be 4k SDR. The match frame rate etc should be on
The advice here is just plain wrong.
I leave dolby vision 4k on all times and my tv will switch automatically to sdr. If u switch your apple tv to sdr always then your screen saver wont be in hdr.
