Funny story, with my first Apple TV, I actually used a boombox as my TV speakers. So with my first Apple TV upgrade, the new device overwhelmed the crappy audio cable that I was using (RCA to 1/4" headphone jack), so I bought a new cable and then finally replaced the TV speaker, and when that still didn't work, I had to replace my actual TV! I couldn't believe how that initial investment snowballed, but all of it was dinosaur technology and needed to go. It was funny how it snowballed. It would be like initially buying an undershirt and then ending up with a Zegna tuxedo because the t-shirt made the shirt look bad.
What about using the apple tv 4k but not having an iphone or "i" related devices? i am considering of buying it for my friend but he uses Samsung phone instead. Or would it be better to get Google TV Streamer instead?
Is this a good choice for Android phone users?
I have had every Apple TV since the first one. Every other streamer is toy compared to it.
What it less widely known is that ATV handles video superbly. My LGTV and Firecube video looks industrial, utilitarian. By comparison, my old ATV3 just pops, even when airplaying streaming video apps from the imac or phone, the shadow detail is easily visible without blowing out highlights. They handle HDR and Dolby very well because they are an Arts-directed product, for content creators, so they know their stuff. They just do it right, for a movie theatre -like experience!
The most main issue with apple TV, is you don’t really benefit from it if you aren’t in USA

The Apple TV 4K does not support 4K YouTube videos due to the lack of support for the VP9 codec, which YouTube uses for 4K content.
Apple's devices primarily support H.264/HEVC, and while the Apple TV 4K can play 4K videos from sources like iTunes and Netflix, it does not support 4K YouTube videos because of this codec issue.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that YouTube's app developers have made differences in their app for Apple TV and for other devices, which can affect the availability of 4K HDR settings.
Although there have been discussions about potential future support, as of now, the Apple TV 4K does not support 4K YouTube videos.
