When my TV remote stopped working, I could’ve just replaced the battery. Instead, I designed and built my own universal smart remote — complete with 3D printed buttons, a custom PCB, and full Home Assistant integration. Was it a massive overreaction? Absolutely. But now it controls my whole smart home.

So this video has sparked a personal interest in learning how to design PCBs so I'd love to see a deep diver on the process of designing that PCB that a newbie trying to learn can understand.
This is an awesome practical project, and I totally plan to do this in the future.
I'm hoping to add some extra functionality, I often watch in a very dark room, so having a sensor to detect a tap on the case or being lifted to enable back lighting on the buttons would be great.
Perhaps I'll make a quick video with my changes in the future 🙂
Love this! I'll be making custom remotes for the kids.
Fun fact (and many of you might already know this): companies have to pay for those shortcut buttons, so really they're another form of advertising that you're paying for by purchasing the remote
Awesome project! You could use this in addition to HassBeam to add IR functionality really easily. Its open source and really easy to setup and should work out of the box with this remote
They make a smart hub with and ir admitter. U could get one of those and use it to control ir devices
Rewatched this video after a few weeks and my first thought after seeing it again was "this dude rocks"
