When my TV remote stopped working, I could’ve just replaced the battery. Instead, I designed and built my own universal smart remote — complete with 3D printed buttons, a custom PCB, and full Home Assistant integration. Was it a massive overreaction? Absolutely. 1. wonder what it would have taken to add instead a charging plate receiver and had a charging plate transmitter under the coffee table…. seen some amazing desk that had that feature so you could charge your phone while it was next to you and needing less cables to manage regularly, plus you get the benefit of charging it, and it "having its own place" so set it and forget it would apply…. they look like the receiver pads are 4 to 6$….

  2. I still have a harmony remote. I thought about setting it up again recently.
Personally I still like IR blasters. They just work short of the rare dead battery. Pairing apps, web Auth, Bluetooth, etc is a pita when you just want to watch a movie, but your Auth timed out or the app got updated.
