I have a Sony OLED. It has Google OS. I love it. Subscribed to YouTube TV. I also have iOS and appleTV. I love both. I use the built in native Google TV OS on my sony and use apple for Apple TV content, mirroring, etc. I am logged into all apps on both systems so I can switch up to either at any time. I actually have the google TV box and I have it hooked to my monitor on my desktop system too.. Have a Mac Mini, so don't need an AppleTV hooked to the monitor.
Come on, put a tensor chip in the google tv, even an old one like the g2 g3.
Hardware wise the Apple TV is a solid, well built piece of kit and never get much lag. Have the Ethernet version, problem is that once you have the Ethernet cable, power cable and a hdmi cable in the box moves without some judicious cable routing. The remote would be almost flawless if it included backlighting.
If i watch anything these days i wait until the season has finished then subscribe for a month and binge watch, its to expensive having multiple subscriptions and have to say the actual Apple TV contact is very limited.
Waiting for the day when a streaming tax is introduced by the Government to prop up the rapidly fading BBC, thats when the box goes.
Live TV on Google TV appears to be only available on the US and Germany.
The Google Streamer does support a phone as a remote. If I open the Streamer from Google Home app, there is a remote control option.
I have used both.. Apple TV 4K as primary device. really loved it. Google TV was bought after I relocate for work and forgot apple TV at home. It was nice, not bad .. got it for $15 off. It did its own thing but yeah, Apple TV is a lot better
I don't know if Google TV is the same but I have a homstics box 4K plus and I'm not getting Dolby Atmos in Disney+ with the box connected directly to my DENON X2800. I'm getting Atmos in every other app though.
I'm aware Disney+ doesn't support Atmos in some countries but when I use Disney+ on my TV here in Ireland I get Dolby Atmos.
Big no! Unless there’s a very niche requirement, don’t go for Google Chromecast , in previous model that I’ve been using it for 3 years, and there’s always some issue. I even had to get the device replaced within the first year. It’s not at all stable, whereas my 5–6 year old Firestick still works perfectly , Apple products are on expensive side but are reliable.
Google drop products that I use. Streaming to google tv results in outbound traffic over my internet connection. If internet is down can’t stream to it. Google remote is cheap. Apple TV can send audio to AirPods Pro, which is killer. So not for me. I used to use chrome casts and chrome cast audio everywhere, but too many limitations and issues, and I no longer trust google. For me Apple TV is one of their best products.
