It's simple, no SmartTube, no buy
The obvious fact that on Google you have the Google Play Store and third party apps like SmartTube. Apple you are locked in like the Roku’s. No options.
What I love about Google tv is the jellyfin app. It also natively plays mkv files.

Thanks for asking the all important question about why LG and Samsung in particular are promoting their built-in smart functions and advanced chipsets. I will abide by the Apple TV (for its ecosystem and for the library extra features on movies).
The problem in general with Smart TVs is that the processor not only has to handle the loads from the apps, but for other essential functions in addition to presenting an image on the screen. There is probably an insufficient buffer memory that when steaming content, it prioritizes the streaming buffering rather than the OS and the lagginess comes from an inability to switch functions quickly. (It’s a guess.)
Also worth noting that many streaming apps on google TV don’t support frame rate switching, but nearly all do on the Apple TV.
