AppleTV is great but my PlayStation can play my Mortal Kombat DVD and that means a lot more to me
On AppleTV, Profiles are only supported for compatible apps. For instance Netflix doesn't, when you open Netflix it still prompt who's watching, this is why you see your kids shows, it will not be fixed. But Disney, Prime, AppleTV, supports profiles and will switch automatically.

I got the Google TV streamer a couple weeks ago and it's fantastic! The ads don't bug me. They seem to reflect my interest, so I think of them as showing me what else is out there I might want to watch that I don't currently pay for. The performance is perfectly smooth. It doesn't stutter at all. The voice search is nearly perfect. And I can get all the streaming apps I want, which is important cuz I use some apps that are somewhat obscure.
I bought the google one and sold after using it a month, I would said Nvidia shield is best all the time, google one is just piece of π©
I don't like Google TV because of recommendations, if you need it for somebody who doesn't have trillion streaming services, just one, which is for live TV (it's called Skylink Live TV, Im sure you've never heard of it, but in Slovakia it's a thing) than recommendations are just useless, for one Google TV device I needed to switch it to app only mode, and on main I have android TV, much better than Google TV
i really want an Apple TV, but the recent rumours there should be a new version soon
Worth mentioning, in one room I had an 8+ year old AppleTV. It is still Rock Solid with performance, processing, connection speed, and software updates. With my experience with Google/Android products, I can't imagine their 8 year old boxes are on par.
