I like apple tv but roku has 560 free channels in live tv
My Roku ultra is the limiting factor from having a quality TV. Since the Roku is holding me back got to upgrade to Apple. If you have a normal TV "led" then your Roku is equal quality with no reason to upgrade with the technical upgrades because those features will be limited by your TV or Internet!
I am UK based and have a Roku Ultra (purchased from USA circa 8 years ago) and also have an Apple TV 4K (purchased second hand Gen 2).
I love the UI of the Apple TV and think the picture is slightly better for watching movies, but I don't like the Apple remote.
I do love the simplicity of the Roku and find it is my GO TO device for daily viewing.
The other issue with the Roku Ultra is that it does not support the BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds apps which I knew when purchasing.

Do you have to pay a monthly fee to use the Apple TV streamer if you don’t want to subscribe to the Apple TV channel?
The Fox One channel frequently fails to launch on the Roku 3, Roku 4, and Roku Ulta. The Fox One Channel works on the iPhone or on a web browser. Does the Fox One channel launch and function properly on the Apple TV streamer. I’m thinking about switching from Roku to the Apple TV streamer because Roku frequently fails to launch the Fox One channel. Roku launches other channels, just doesn’t function properly with the Fox One channel.
Roku is better. More open, cheaper, and works just as good if not better.
I notice my Roku Hisense tv has better image like on Netflix then it does on my Apple TV Netflix weird
I do watch the live TV quite a bit and like that my Roku is backlit. I also don't like that Apple phases out their devices, forcing you to throw away perfectly good equipment (like I have with Apple computers when Apple quits updates) I do have apple on one of my TVs, but tend to like Roku better. If you don't watch the free TV, I don't think it would matter much which you use.
