Amazon has just dropped a major Firestick and Fire TV update with a one-click option to clear all app caches. On my Firestick, it even shows I can instantly free up 693.32 MB of storage. Sounds great… but is it actually worth using?
In this video, I’ll explain:
✅ How to check if your device has the latest Fire OS update
🔄 Where to find the new “Clear All Caches” option
📦 Why some people love it (more storage)
⚠️ Why others say it can slow your apps down
🔍 My recommended best practices for when you should and shouldn’t clear cache
I’ll also share a quick tip on checking your privacy settings after updates, and explain why your cache never truly hits 0 KB (hello 16.38 KB residual cache 👀).

Only 82.3Mb for me, but I use Background Apss & Process App & close / clear cache before I close out Amazon Firestick for the night. so weekly or nightly, depending on usage.
I've just discovered a new app installed – I presume from the update ? It's called 'Amazon Fire TV Lightning Server'. Do I need it or can I delete it. I restarted my 4k max, and it comes up in my 'background applications' as running. I always check what starts running in the background, as soon as I log into my Firestick. There's always Plex and VLC that are running. I don't know why. I can't see a way of preventing them from starting ? There's nothing listed in the settings that I can see that says they should load by default ?
Any advice re preventing Plex & VLC from automatically loading in the background – before any other apps have been used ? And can I delete / uninstall the Amazon fire TV Lightning Server' ? Thanks
Thanks for your sharing, I have just updated my device to a new version
